Cheadle Hulme 1st showed composure in defeating solid Ashton

CHLC V ASHTON 7/10/17
A harder game for the men in black today against a solid but ageing Ashton side. With some old faces back in the ranks Billy ‘slow ball’ Burnham, Jon ‘I’ve retired’ McQueen and Carl ‘Football’ Adshead the team were looking in great shape.
On a very wet and soggy Cheadle Hulme pitch the 2 teams went at it hard. Dylan Brown took the start by the scruff of the neck and dominated the face off throughout. A quick goal by Ben Eglin and the men in black were up and running. Along came Ashton with 4 unanswered goals and the boys looked rocked for the first time this season. Looking fearless in front of goal Ben took a great pass from Chris Doona late in the first to help CHLC to 4-2 down score at the break. Some words were said Matt Jones turned up from his holiday and a fire was lit in the sticks of the black. Tom Doona from the off looked like a menace and taking another great pass from Chris he stuck the ball away with ease. Unleashing Carl into the attack worked a treat and a great individual goal followed. 4-4 early in the 2nd. Tails were up! Chris thought I fancy that and followed the same path with the same result, 5-4. Ashton were rocked! With Stu Beddows now given a job to do on their best player it was looking good for the boys. Carl again on target as Ashton were losing the plot but they managed to sneak 1 just before the break. A great quarter for the boys at the back led by Bill. Harry, Jon, Charlie and the short sticks Ds, Stu, Dylan and Will stuck to their guns and little was given. A half time row erupted as Ashton thought they were level, the refs(all 4) had it right 6-5 at the half. Along came the talking point! After some ranting and raving to the unmoveable Beddows a man in red saw red and was sent home for an early bath! With 3 mins on the penalty the men in black switched on and a nice goal from Chris set up from Captain Will steadied the ship. It’s got to be said Ashton never gave up and returned with 3 goals in a mad 3rd quarter but Tom producing a now trademark finish from a very nicely made team move got the teams level. 8-8 going into the 4th. Some hard words by coach Peacock at the break seemed to do the trick! Dylan again while being used as a bed for the opposing face off stole the show. With his supporting cast around him Charlie now at LSM Matt, Chris and Will the boys rallied. Tom grabbed his 3rd of the day. Some more D work to be done but out they came Ben grabbing his 3rd again smart work from Chris showing his class. A couple of near misses at both ends George playing well and getting into some fantastic positions only to find the keeper on form! Some dicey passes some breaks knocked down by our in form goalie and D the men in black broke once again. Settle was the call but Chris fancied another! Bang they were up by 3! Time played out with the men in black triumphant again. What a game and top of the league!
Goals- Ben 3, Tom 3, Chris 3, Carl 2
